Station House is a brick and timber building in Downtown St. Petersburg with a turf rooftop above it, and a colour scheme this dark only works in a room that already has some weight to it. Deep red, burgundy and black would look severe in a white ballroom. Against old brick, exposed beams and bare wood, they read as warmth.
Gabro supplied two things at this wedding and nothing else: the chairs and the tables. That is a narrower brief than usual and it makes the choices unusually easy to read, because with no linen on the tables and no drape on the walls, the furniture is the design. Here is why black Chiavari and bare farm tables were the right pair for this building.
Black Chiavari on a rooftop lawn
The ceremony was set on the rooftop turf with rows of black Chiavari facing the skyline. Black is the harder colour to get right outdoors and the correct one here. White chairs against a bright sky and a pale city backdrop create a field of blown-out highlights across the bottom of every wide photograph; black holds its tone, so the rows read as clean lines and the eye goes past them to the skyline and the couple.
The Chiavari frame does the rest. It is mostly negative space, which is why a set of rows never becomes a solid mass, and on a rooftop that matters twice over: the whole reason to marry up there is the view, and a heavier chair would put a wall across it at seat-back height.
Rooftops bring their own handling rules. Wind is stronger and more turbulent than at street level, and a light chair frame on smooth turf will skate; rows get set square, checked once the space is loaded, and anything not in use comes down rather than being left stacked in the open. Turf is also less forgiving than it looks — it is laid over a hard deck, so a chair does not sink, but a leg on an uneven seam sits proud, and each row still gets walked before guests arrive.

Farm tables, dressed in nothing at all
Downstairs, dinner was served on bare wood farm tables with no linen at all. That is a design decision and a logistics decision at the same time. Visually, it puts a third texture into the room alongside brick and beam, and it is what lets a dark palette stay warm — black plates and burgundy flowers on white linen look funereal; on honey-coloured timber they look rich.
Practically, going without linen removes an entire category of problems: nothing to steam, nothing to spot, nothing to re-lay between courses. It replaces them with a different one. A bare table is a finished surface on display for six hours, so it has to arrive genuinely clean and undamaged, and it has to be protected during the event — heat from a chafer or a candle base marks a waxed top, and standing water from a knocked glass will raise the grain if it sits.
Farm tables are also the heaviest thing in the order by a wide margin. A solid timber top needs more crew and more time than a folding banquet table, it cannot be leaned against a wall while a room is reset, and it wants a clear path in. That is a scheduling question as much as a pricing one: farm tables go into a room first, before anything else is placed.

One long run through the length of the room
The tables were joined into long runs down the axis of the building rather than broken into rounds. In a room with structural columns and a beamed ceiling, that is the layout that agrees with the architecture: the run follows the same line as the beams overhead, so the room reads as one long space instead of a grid of tables placed inside one.
It also fixes the guest experience in a narrow room. Rounds in a space with columns always leave somebody with a post in their eyeline. A banquet run puts everyone on an axis and gives every seat the same view down the table, which is the same reason it photographs so well from the end.
Joining farm tables takes more care than joining folding tables. Timber tops are individually made, so heights and widths vary by a few millimetres, and a run is sorted and matched before it is set rather than assembled in whatever order it comes off the truck. It is chalked to a line, levelled joint by joint on an old and rarely flat floor, and the seams are placed between settings rather than under one. Chair spacing is then set from the seams, not from the ends, so the last two seats do not end up squeezed.
