Set within the monumental neoclassical architecture of a former federal courthouse in downtown Tampa, this moody burgundy and onyx wedding inspiration at Le Méridien Tampa redefines contemporary luxury. Designed by UNIQUE Weddings + Events and brought to life through architectural lighting and draping from Gabro Event Services, the editorial demonstrates how rich crimson hues, dark velvets, and warm candlelight transform historic stone spaces into intimate romantic sanctuaries.
A Candlelit Ceremony on Historic Courthouse Steps
Built in 1905, Le Méridien Tampa seamlessly fuses French mid-century style with century-old beaux-arts civic architecture. The central marble staircase—once trodden by federal judges and historic dignitaries—served as the dramatic stage for the ceremony. The design team leaned into the architectural drama, trading traditional floral arbors for sculptural installations that accentuated the soaring stone balustrades.
Hundreds of clear glass hurricane cylinders and ivory pillar candles cascaded down the marble risers, creating an ethereal pathway of flickering light. At the base of the staircase, La Maison des Fleurs anchored the space with grand dark urns filled with cascading burgundy amaranthus, chocolate cosmos, deep red garden roses, and wild greenery, accompanied by the soulful melodies of a solo violinist from Sweet Harmony Music.

High-Fashion Portraits Amidst Neoclassical Grandeur
Iyrus Weddings utilized the courthouse’s terrazzo corridors, soaring oak doors, and dramatic natural sidelight to compose high-fashion portraits that bridged vintage formality with modern romance. The bride wore an exquisite Truly Forever Bridal gown featuring a structured corset bodice and dramatic textural ballgown skirt, paired with a bold scarlet lip by Femme Akoi Beauty Studio.
Beside her, the groom donned a bespoke black velvet tuxedo jacket with satin shawl lapels and a deep crimson bowtie. The rich tactile fabrics echoed the day’s moody color palette, standing out with arresting contrast against the neutral limestone architecture of the historic federal building.

Atmospheric Amber Lighting & Dramatic Ceiling Draping
In the grand reception hall, lighting played the central role in establishing mood and intimacy. Gabro Event Services engineered a bespoke lighting design that bathed the ballroom walls in warm amber and soft blush tones, softening the room’s formal lines while accentuating its historic crown moldings and architectural alcoves.
Above, flowing ceiling drapery added textural softness and European grandeur. Focused pinspot fixtures provided by Gabro cast narrow, brilliant beams of light directly onto each dining table, ensuring that decadent floral arrangements and personalized paper goods popped with clarity without spilling harsh light across the room.

Onyx Place Settings & Decadent Burgundy Tablescapes
The reception tablescapes were a masterclass in rich, tactile layering. Long banquet tables were enveloped in opulent burgundy velvet linens provided by Over the Top Rental Linens, providing a dramatic foundation for matte black charger plates, modern brushed gold flatware, and smoked crystal glassware.
Down the center of the tables, La Maison des Fleurs arranged continuous compotes of dark plum calla lilies, black baccara roses, and cascading dried floral accents, surrounded by towering black taper candles in brass holders. Bespoke place cards and menus created by madWOLFE Designs featured hand-lettered gold calligraphy on deckled onyx paper, completing an unforgettable dining setting steeped in romance.
